Mayme (May) was a knitter, Beatrice (Bea) a seamstress. With both grandmothers filled with talent and skill, I have to say I come by my sewing and knitting honestly. Handcrafting came to me as naturally as breathing. My first sewing project was with my friend Jeff at age three--we made headbands. What can I say? It was the 70s. The name, MayBea Crafted, honors both grandmothers and their influence in teaching me the importance of creating something with my hands. Since my early exposure to many types of hand crafts in childhood, I've spent years honing my craft. The bags I create today are intended to put high quality fabrics and careful stitching together into a functional piece of art that will add a bit of fun to your every day. The kits created take into account my love of color and need for a quick project to grab and go. The patterns I write are intended to be easy to follow, simple to knit, but make you feel clever when you’re finished. With a degree in Special Education, I’ve been able to write instructions that even a beginner can understand. New for 2021 is our Farm2Needle yarn—Welcome Home. I’ve connected farmer to mill to indy dyer to offer a way to support many small, women owned businesses with one purchase. The wool is bred for softness, strength and luster; spun to exacting specifications at the mill to best show off textured stitches and stranded knitting; and then dyed by well loved independent dyers to create a bright rainbow of color choices that we hope will bring joy with every stitch. I am active in my local knitting guild, and marry my degree in education to my love of knitting to teach classes in my home, via zoom, and (when safe) am available to travel to teach near you.
